DVT deep vein thrombosis forum

Welcome to the DVT deep vein thrombosis open discussion forum. Please feel free to start a new topic or reply to any existing topics. No need to register to use this forum. Just feel free to share your experiences of DVT.

One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

thrombolysis clot removal on below knee?

It is my understanding that thrombolysis can only be preformed on proximal
clots (above knee) not distal ( below knee).

I have a clot that starts in popliteal and goes down into calf.

Can the new procedures be used on these type of clots???? What are the pros
and cons?

Please if anyone has additional info or has had thrombolysis on a clot that starts
behind the knee and goes down into calf let me know!!!

I've been treated for a PE and a clot in my left leg for about 3 weeks. The pain in
my leg is almost gone and I can barely feel the clot with my fingers. I noticed this
morning that the skin below my ankles has suddenly turned a solid, dark blue
gray. Does anyone know if this is a big problem or not? It's Sunday so can't call
my doctor. It doesn't hurt and isn't swollen. Kind of shocking to see.

Anyone have an IVC filter removed?

I was diagnosed with a DVT in my left leg
from my ankle to my pelvis about a week and
a half ago. It was provoked by pregnancy
and factor v. I underwent thrombolysis
surgery two days in a row, and was treated
with a hep drip and TPA. They also
inserted an IVC filter in my groin that I
am scheduled to have removed in two weeks.

Has anyone had this done? Is it as
involved/difficult as the thrombolysis
surgery itself? I am nervous and a bit
scared for them to go back in.

I am 35 years old, for whatever that is

Is it safe to have a mole removed on Warfarin?

My boyfriend had a DVT about 5 weeks ago. He has a large mole near his mouth which he finds makes it very tricky to shave (he had a beard until recently), he keeps ending up with cuts round the mole, and that was before the Warfarin. I've had a couple of moles removed on the NHS, and I know that it's simpler with the bobbly ones than with the buried ones, so I'm wondering whether it would be an option for him to have it removed, if that's what he wants. Can you have a mole removed while on Warfarin? Is it something they can work around?

Foot Numbness

Has anyone dealt with numbness in their DVT foot after being taken off coumadin? I had a DVT in Jan 2010 and a superficial clot in Nov 2010 in the same leg. I have not been diagnosed with PTS, but I experience quite a bit of pain in my leg (bad enough that I had ultrasounds done to confirm that the veins were clear.) Now I am experiencing numbness in the sole of my foot, running from toes to heel, and my ankle is somewhat swollen. The numbness is constantly there, but the swelling increases throughout the day, even though I am wearing my compression stocking, and there is is an achy soreness by evening. I am a teacher, so I spend the biggest part of the day on my feet.

My leg is not red, there is no other swelling in my leg, and the pain is not any worse than normal. So I am not too concerned that it's another clot. The first appt that I can get with my doctor without having to miss school is not for another 2 weeks, so I was hoping maybe someone would have some insight and... read more

I have had DVT for about 8 years now starting when I was 30 years old. It has been a
life altering struggle to say the least. For about a year now I have had what appears to
be white atrophy on my lower ankle. There are hard, white spots that are sore to the
touch. I am going to get this confirmed by the doctor tomorrow, but I was wondering if
anyone else has this and how you heal it and deal with it.

Doctors in Colorado?

Hello all,

I am approaching 40 and have 4 separate dvts starting at around age 20. The first one was after I was really sick and laid in bed for several days. The 3rd one was after a very long trip to India and back. The other 2 really don't have any explanation. Well, after the last one, my doctor has sentenced me to a lifetime of anti-coagulants. I have had plenty of bloodwork done to determine if there is a reason for me to have this happen, especially since they started when I was young. I don't smoke.
A lifetime of blood thinners is just not something I'm ready to accept. I don't want to live as if I'm extra fragile.
My questions, does anyone know of a Doctor in Colorado that is especially knowledgeable about DVTs, causes, and prevention by other means? Thanks.

Xeralto and Sports

I am 34 and had my first unprovoked PE two years ago. I was on coumadin for the first 6 months and went off it because I wanted to be able to play competitive soccer again (and I had a hard time being therapeutic INR )
I played soccer for about 4 months and after some long travel I had a second unprovoked PE. I have been on Xarelto for about 4 months.
I started playing soccer again recently although at a much less competitive level.
I'm sure my Doctor would not be a fan of this so my question is does anyone have any experience through their doctor regarding light contact sports and Xarelto?

I know it's always a danger but playing is my release... Anyone who plays a sport they love I'm sure understands.

i just had 12 hours sleep and am still completely exhausted and feel weak and

i have been having shortness of breath just from walking ever since i had blood
drawn last thursday - i am wondering could it be a clot from the iv or from
sitting in the er for 6 hours?

my calf hurts especially when squatting or putting weight on it get a stabbing
crushing pain. also getting tingling and numbness in that leg.

dr said no swelling = no dvt.
had a normal d dimer but still not convinced.
want a scan of lungs but had one 6 months ago dr say too much radiation
because im only 20 years old.

also want an ultrasound but hospital does not scan calf area only thigh, which
isn't helpful.

have an appt with cardiologist tomorrow and want to ask gp for ultrasound.
however i am worried the clot will have moved by that time.

i do not feel myself at all. im only 20 and feel like crying because nobody will

Diagnosed DVT 1 Week Ago and SEVERE calf cramp

Hey everybody, I am new here. I have a question for the experienced or non-experienced if you can relate or can shed any light.

Okay, this sucks for one. I just wanted to get that out of the way.

I went to the ER with a swollen leg about a week ago and they diagnosed me with DVT in my left leg. They admitted me, placed me on Heparin and Coumadin, I was there for 4 days, and now I am home on just Coumadin with INR of 2.4. I have to be on Coumadin for a year, so they say.

My question:

I have the worst f-ing cramp / constant charlie horse in my left calf that I have ever had in my life. I literally cannot walk. I have to use crutches and a wheelchair to get up to my office.

I just got compression stockings today (they're sexy) and just started taking some Magnesium and Vitamin E.

Will this pain fade or go away or am I going to deal with this forever?

Please, any light at the end of this tunnel will help.
