One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi all,

This is all very new to me. Im a 40yr old male living in Flordia. After a small bout of diverticulitis, 3 weeks agothat cleared up quickly, i had a ct scan done that showed, just by luck, i had a block in my portal vein. I have had absolutley no symptoms and have no idea when the block came. Months or maybe years ago. There are so many veins that have grown the doctor said that the liver is fine. Im waiting for Ultrasound results now.
After blood tests that showed FVL and now have the question of coumadin or not. I'm having my family tested also.
I'm now living in a state of fear after reading so much info on the net and wonder what the furure holds. So, based on this, do i go with coumadin or maybe a natural route like fish oils and maybe a baby asprin?

Any advice or help would be great.

Should I be concerned

I started on new medication nearly 4 weeks ago (pregabalin and amitriptyline)and
around the same time I started having pain in one leg, so I put it down to a side
effect. Nearly 4 weeks on all other side effects have pretty much gone but this
persistent leg pain is still there. Of course Ive been googling and found Dvt, so
the pain... it seems to mainly be in my calf like cramp but when I bend over I often
get a pain down the front of my thigh and when I sit it hurts round my bum and
down the back of my leg. the calf pain is persistent and hurts when sitting but
worst whilst walking and using my leg to drive is particularly uncomfortable.
after a period of laying down it improves a lot and I'm fine sleeping etc when laid
down but it is there as soon as I stand. Should I be concerned? I will go see a
doctor but will be Monday x any opinions appreciated. Also ... I am not sporty and
haven't done anything that could have caused a muscle injury. X

DVT PTS and Venowave

I developed my first DVT over a year ago. It was incredibly painful I
was taking pain meds around the clock. Finally the pain subsided after
about 6 weeks and a full month off work. I gathered info on the
Venowave. It seemed to get mixed reviews here however I went for it out
of desperation to get back to work. So far I am showing virtually no
signs of PTS which was my greatest concern and the anxiety of developing
another DVT is eased by wearing the Venowave. I know the coast is not
clear for PTS yet, but all looks good this far and I am pleased.

Hi, I have just found this forum, can't believe I've not seen it before!

Anyway, I have just replied to another post and it occurred to me, who
has been on Warfarin the longest? I have been on it for 16 years, has
anyone else been on it this length of time?

I have recently been starting to worry about the long term side effects
but my doctor just says it's the side effects of not taking it that I
should be worried about ie getting another clot :-(

Ive been having weird feelings in one leg for about a week and I'm scared it could
be DVT.
I'm 28 years old, smoker, no history of clotting disorders. A few weeks ago I read
on Facebook that someone had a charley horse feeling behind their knee and it
ended up being a blood clot. Now, I'm a bit of a hypochondriac and whenever I
read about symptoms of anything I start thinking "oh I have that!"
Anyway, we travelled to my sisters house which is about a 3 hour drive, and then
back the next day, stopping once or twice each way to use the restroom. I started
having a funny "tickle" feeling in my calf and it felt kind of tight. I start texting
googling and found all this stuff about blood clots, and nothing is easing my
mind, it just seemed to make everything worse. Now, 3 days later, I'm having
sharp pains (not really painful just annoying) in my calf, knee, and about 5 inches
up my inner thigh. Like I said, not painful, just annoying and causing me
unbearable an... read more

Hi guys I'm curious as to wether or not I should go to the doctors or not. I've
never really had leg pain before but yesterday I got out of my car and my left calf
muscle began aching. It's not severe just a full ache. I did wake in the night to it
but it was more worry I think. It's sort of behind my knee and also lower down.
Like I need to pop something it feels really tight. Ha fit for two days now. No
swelling or redness. Nothing else. Walking on it's fine but it does ache no matter
what

Almost exactly 2 months ago I posted on this forum. I had swelling, redness and warmth in my left ankle and a little on the top of the foot. Went to the ER, they did a D-Dimer which was really high, they did an ultrasound but nothing was found so I was sent on my way and told to follow up with my PCP which I did. He told me that he had the ultrasound report and that there was indeed no blood clot...he then sent me to a blood disorders Dr. to see if he could figure out a reason for the high D-Dimer...he couldn't figure anything out so again I was sent on my way, everything cleared up and didn't have any more problems...forward to 1 day ago...same symptoms in the same place...what should I do?

My experiences with EKOS thrombolysis procedur

I've referred to this forum many times in the past six months, so I thought I would contribute my experiences with the EKOS ultrasound accelerated thrombolysis procedure, in the hopes it would help someone else.

Brief background on me: I am (was) a healthy, fairly active 41 year old male. In Nov/Dec I had a silent DVT and serious PE, leading to partial cardiac failure. Spent several days in the hospital. After three months, my PCP took me off warfarin. My clots came back within three weeks. This time the DVT was much worse, a full occlusion running from just below the knee up to the groin. It was comprised of both old (five month) and new clots.

After a month of referral/scheduling/insurance nightmares (another post), I went in for the EKOS treatment. At this point, my clots were six months and 40 days old, still 100% occluded. The IRU doc warned me - the chance of success was slim, to the point of being experimental (just don't tell your insurance that!).

Hair Loss on Warfarin

Hi there,

I just wondered if anyone had had any specific experience of hair loss while on Warfain? I was diagnosed with a massive dvt in right thigh last September, and am now on Warfarin until the end of April. No real problems so far - except my hair suddenly seems to be falling out! I understand it can be a side effect - but obviously just want to check that in addition to having one leg much larger than the other I am not also going to be bald!

Does anyone know if wearing stockings can cause high blood pressure? I know I read a thread in here somewhere at some point and a guy mentioned it can happen, but I can't find it again to read it or ask for a follow up.

I found some info on the web talking about it also, but just wondered if anyone here knows anything.

thanks!

Vascular Ultrasound Cost

My DVT was recently diagnosed using ultrasound. I haven't been billed
yet, but according to the insurance claim online, the cost of the
ultrasound was $1,350. I haven't been able to find much pricing info
online, but this seems awfully high. What have others been charged? My
high deductible insurance means I'm responsible for the entire amount.
I'd like to be armed with some facts when/if I push back on the bill.
Thanks!

Bleeding

Here's a stupid question I guess. I've been eating warfarin for the past 3.5
months due to a dvt. The past few days I have been having epistaxis and my
hemorrhoids have been bleeding more than ever before. I go weekly for Inrs
but haven't heard back from my doc (they are sick of me). How do you know if
you are at risk of bleeding from warfarin ? Sorry to be so gross. Does one need
to be concerned about bleeding where you don't normaly bleed?

Short on breath when walking

Was diagnosed with DVT 2.5 weeks ago after giving birth; large clot in
groin and all down leg into calf. Leg pain was so bad I could hardly
walk for week one, but now feeling much better and feeling it in calf
more than anywhere, and its a mild pain. My concern now is, as I try to
go on walks, Im quickly out of breath. I cant go further then a half
block and I go slow/need to stop and take breaks sometimes. I never had
any signs of a PE, does this mean I may have had one, or could it be the
Warfarin? I am still in recovery mode from giving birth so maybe Im just
really out of shape? I would take mile walks up until giving birth
though so that seems less likely. Any input?

To note, I have had a slightly heavy chest (phlemy) entire time, but
upon mentioning it to my hemotologist, she said at this point we
shouldnt bother with checking for PE since treatment is the same. I am
itching to be more physically active (and shed some baby weight) but I

Symptoms of DVT in groin

Has anyone had DVT in their groin or abdomen? What are the symptoms. I am having aching in my groin, transient pain in the lower abdomen, lower back and hip. I have Factor V Leiden and had an IVC filter removed about 6 weeks ago, going thru that groin. There is no hematoma os pain on the entry site. While my DVT was the length of my R leg, it never went up into the groin.

New 1st time DVT and Freaking Out

I am 46 and just found out two days ago that I have a DVT behind
my left knee which most likely developed after a long flight a few
days early (and I have risk factors of taking birth control and
being obese). I am on Eliquis and my doctor didn't not seem
concerned at all and just said to take the medication and an
ultrasound will be repeated in 4 weeks.

Of course, I started reading on the internet about DVT breaking
off and turning into a PE and now I am hyper sensitive about every
little thing that I feel. Does anyone know the odds of that
happening? Anyone have any personal experience? Obviously, I
want to err of the side of caution but I also don't want to run to
the ER constantly either.

Thanks so much for any help.

Yay. I've just heard from Alere inr home testing , and my insurance has paid
100% for a home testing monitor. This will save me mega $$ and is closely
monitored with my Dr. I have a trainer coming in the next week to teach me how
to use it ( I've seen it done a hundred times anyway).

foot swelling

I had an extensive dvt over a year ago which cleared eventually but
left some damage to the popliteal vein and possibly other veins. My
lower calf/ankle and foot still swell a bit though it feels worse
than it looks. I do a fair bit of walking and do half hour to an hour
daily on the exercise bike. I know my leg could be worse but still
find myself getting depressed about the sensation of fullness in
lower leg and foot. Anyone else get down about this?
