One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Extensive DVT in Groin/Tummy

I was diagnosed with an extensive DVT in my groin/Tummy yesterday, I
am 5 weeks Post partum after a rather horrendous emergency c-section.
Up until Sunday I was very active and I have LOST 3 stone from my
pregnant weight to now and 2 stone from my pre preg weight till now.

So the doctor is very surprised this happened.

Ive been given deltaparin to self inject for 5 days and warferin to
take for 3 months...............

HOWEVER, I have received NO information what so ever as to what I can
and cannot do. I was told if short of breath to call the doctors or
our NHS24/999.

I of course, have a 5 week old baby and my 4 yr old to look after. I
cant walk more than 10 ft without crying in pain and my leg swelling
up again and going purple. I've had 6 hours sleep since Sunday night
and am at my wits end. How long will this swelling (5cm difference in
left leg to right)last and the pain? I am hoping to have them
prescribe Codine or something over the ph... read more

Does ANY company make truly custom medical compression panty hose? As in, custom in the way they are made? I have some very specific needs and need the "panty/thigh" portion to be constructed differently. ANY thoughts, info, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am 31 and have a DVT in my left arm and just diagnosed with APS
(antiphospolipid Syndrome) which I will need lifetime anti-cougulation
(coumadin) for. I am in the process of finding out if it is a primary
condition or if it is secondary to Systemic Lupus. My PT (INR) always
runs at a low 2 which gives me no room for any Vitamin K intake. Is
there anyone else out there with this same condition and how have you
been handling it? Also, I know this shouldn't be a concern of mine but
just curious if anyone out there is on Coumadin and has gotten a tattoo?
Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to this great site. I'm 48 and had a left leg DVT last year and lost the big vein in my thigh. I've slowly been able to recover and have gotten better each month. I'm alternate 2.5 and 5 mg of Warfrin a day and keeping my target INR at about 2. I've been playing ice hockey, (yea, I know), and now that summer is here, also running in my above ground pool. This week, I've developed a new condition in that very near my genitals, in my groin area, I get sharp stabbing pains while at rest. Mostly at night when I roll over or something. When I touch around there, I can feel veins or something. Does anyone else have this going on or know what it is? I'll be seeing my GP doctor next week if it persists.

Chronic DVT's for over 10 years???

With current medical technology and treatments for DVT's is it possible to suffer
from symptoms for over 10 years? Also can the pain in ones leg cause someone to
not be able to walk for several years at a time, or should treament or surgery fix that
within a period of weeks or months? Last, would someone require a daily regimen of
pain killers/narcotics for 5-10 years to manage pain from from DVT symptoms? Is it
even possible for someone to have continuous pain from a dvt for years and tears?

My bf was recently put on blood thinners after a blood clot in his lung. He is a
partier, and continues to binge drink on his meds, despite my pleas and the
potential health risks. He interpreted his drs advice to "keep consistent" with his
life style to mean keep partying, and every time he drinks im up all nighy worrying.
He says he researched it, and it said if he drinka water after evwry drink hes
oka.....mind you he'll do that till 4 am and hes slurrying his words. I want him to put
his health first and adopt a healthier lifestyle. I dont want him to get drunk and
injury himself and bleed internally. To me, drinking on blood thinners ia very risky
but hes perfectly fine with it. I dont know how to get through to him. I don't know
how much longer I can sit by and watch him jeopardize his health. Any tips on how
to get through to loved ones on blood thinners who insist on drinking?

Clexane and food interactions

Hi, I am currently on Clexane, two shots a day for a DVT. I do not take Warfarin or
Xeralto as I had bad reactions to these drugs, primarily severe shortness of
breath.

Although the Clexane has been wonderful in terms of none of the crazy side
effects I was getting with Warafin and Xarelto, I have found that the Clexane is
playing havoc with my liver. ALT and ALS bloods are through the roof.

As a result of this I am keen to start taking milk thistle, garlic, lemon, grapefruit
and other liver tonic foods.

My question is, does anybody know if these foods will have an impact on the
effectiveness of Clexane? There appears to be a lot of information on the web
about food interactions with Warafin, yet nothing much about Clexane
interactions with food.

Any help appreciated.

Does anybody know if a clot can get through the IVC filter? My husband has DVT and has also had a PE. His left leg is swollen, red and hot. He doesn' want to go to the Dr because he knows the outcome, a hospital stay. He has been hospitalized twice for blood clots, he is on warfarin and has an IVC filter, what else can be done?

I'm what you call a hypochondriac, and my mind will latch onto
something new every few weeks. Now, it's a good ol' DVT. I've been
feeling pain in my upper inner left thigh, and it comes and goes, and
has been for a week, maybe two now. The pain is not severe, it seems
more like just a dull pain, that sometimes goes to my lower part of my
thigh, but usually stays higher, and is typically not as bad when I
walk around. I don't feel any weakness or tingling in my leg, albeit
very short bursts of it, when I'm the most nervous over it. Also had a
a bigger cramp that lasted down the front left side of my shin, which
was also apparent when I woke up the next day. These come and go,
usually last in spurts from anywhere from 10 minutes, to an hour or
two.

I'm male, 18 years old, 135 Pounds, at 5'10. Though, I'm very
inactive, and will sit in one spot for long periods of time. In fact,
I do it pretty much every day, and have for a few years now. There are

Tendon / Back pain

I had a clot in my lung a few months ago. I'm 34. I have two
mutations in my blood that increase my chances for clotting 20 fold,
so as a result i'll be on 12-15mg per day of Warfarin for life. Since
I've been taking the Warfarin I've had what seems to be tendinitis.
It started in my left ankle then stopped. Suddenly the tendon in my
left thumb became really sore for about a week and a half, but I had
done nothing to injure it. When that subsided I had some pretty heavy
neck pain. This week my right forearm is very very sore on top where
my tendons are, and again, I haven't done anything that would cause
this. I have never had any problems with pain or tendinitis in my
life, all this started after my clot. So far twice I've had a burning
sensation when I urinate despite that all I drink is water. My Doctor
cant really prescribe any anti-inflammatory drugs because of the
warfarin. He has tried two types of muscle relaxers but those have
had no e... read more

Ending Coumadin Therapy

Hello - just curious - how does a GP know when to stop coumadin therapy?

I was told by ER doc's that I'd be on coumadin from 6 - 12 months, more likely 12 months due to the size of my DVT (knee to groin) and the fact it resulted in multiple PE's in both lungs.

Family GP says 3 months (ish) - and says that we will know when to stop b/c I will just feel better. What does this mean? Why such a difference in time line?

It's been 9 weeks so far (only about 3 of which were actually FINALLY in the therapeutic range). My leg still turns blueish after about 2 minutes of standing and after about 10 minutes if I'm moving around/walking.

Does this just go away? Can I request some sort of a scan to make double-sure?

How soon do you go to doctor

This is the third day that I have felt like I have a bruise on my
inner left calf. It hurts to touch and also when I walk a certain
way. Tonight I just noticed a little redness but not a bruise. I am
out of town for work and was wondering how soon I should see a doctor
before this gets out of hand. The pain has gotten worse but not
entirely unbearable. I was thinking I should go to a doctor in the
town I am in. I do smoke and I take birth control as well. Can
someone let me know how long it would take to travel to lungs, heart,
etc. I would like to wait until I return home to see my regular GP
but that will not be for another week. Thanks.

S PE

I survived a s-PE on May 24, 2012. I am an EMT and I did not have the classical
symptoms of a PE with DVT. The actual day the PE happen was on May 21 2012. I
was out getting ready to go for a run, I started doing my warm up and had a
cramp in my left calf, I stopped and stretched my calf, lost my breath almost
instantly, and looked at my heart rate monitor I use when running ad it jump up
from 90 to 136. I walked 1.5 miles and felt like I ran a marathon (the only classic
symptoms). I had no cheats pain, no calf pain (just felt like a tight calf muscle like
runners get). I was not diaphoretic (sweeting) or cyanotic (turing blue), my calf
did not swell, turn red, or had sever pain. I did not have any trauma, and did not
live a sanitary life style

I called my doctors office and made an appointment with them because I thought
it would be quicker than the going to the ER (almost a deadly mistake). They ran
labs, an EKG 12 lead, and did X-rays. A small spot sho... read more

I know using the Internet for diagnosis is not clever but thought I'd post to see if Anyone can offer any advice. I've a doctors appointment but I have to wait 2 weeks for it!! Yea 2 weeks

I've the following symptoms all of which are not constant in my left leg

Prickly feeling on surface
Dull ache in calf but not painful
No swelling what so ever
Kinda of slight burning in the back of my thigh
No discolouration both legs look the same
When I sit I somtimes get the beginning of pins and neadles
No pain if I put pressure on any point of my leg
Everyhing feels surface related and not inside my leg
I get relief if I walk. Of which I can with ease
When I sit I do get tingling feeling

This is all recent
I'm in perfect health
Nonsmoking non drinking

I feel like I'm a time waster if I go to the ER

I feel stupid even typing this as it seams trivial
