One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Blood Clot Concerns

I have a blood clot in my right leg. It also has spread and a cluster of
blood clots moved to my left lung. I have a stable INR level (2.9) and
have stopped taking the belly shots. I was discharged from the hospital
last week and I am still on the cumiden, taking 10 a day. I have a hard
spot on the back of my right leg and my leg is black and blue. I am
unable to have my normal daily life, finding it difficulty to work and
walk. I don't have a dr. appt for a few days and wondered if I need to
go to the ER. I just don't feel better.

Can anyone who has had the tests after coming off warfarin how long they had to
wait for their results?
Its not time for me to have this test done yet, I have a few more months to wait
but I'm just so nervous about it, I really really don't want to be on warfarin for the
rest of my life. Im only 24 and have a subclavian vein dvt and I know it's not a
very common place to get a dvt so I'm thinking the worst! Has anyone has this
type of dvt and their tests were fine?
Any comments/help would really be appreciated!

Hi
I have posted before, and need some more advice. I have a year old full length
clot, stopped warfarin and have suffered terrible pain since, this im learning to
live with, but My new problem is the other leg...I have servere pain, swelling and
cramps...I had a negative USS and a borderline d-dimer... Doctors feel there is no
clot... I had very few symptoms for the old clot, just the odd cramp at night, this
resulted in me collapsing and spending a fortnight in hospital. I'm convinced I
have a new one, but can't get anyone to take me seriously. Any suggestions? I
can't go through it all again and am scared stiff that my number might be up this
time...help please...

Hi Folks. I am a Factor V Leiden diagnosed 40 year old who has been dealing with swelling for almost 9 months now. I am currently taking Xarelto due to a Warfarin allergy. Is anyone out there also taking the alternative treatment to Warfarin and if so, how long is this blasted DVT going to continue to swell my leg?? I read the posts and find that nobody knows Deep Vein Thrombosis issues better than people that have dealt with them. Thanks

DVT/Clots and Distance Running

Hi, Anybody out there have any experience with coming back to distance running from blood clotting? In July DVT was discovered in my left leg and I went through the summer and early fall adapting to blood thinners. I had been incorrectly treating an Achilles injury. It WASN'T! It was considered pretty much a miracle I survived this, as it was building for over two years at least.I am now back to walking about 3 miles five times a week, maybe a little more, and I have recently felt the pain increase hours after walking. My doctor isn't a runner and not big on my running again anytime soon but some folks, especially in the running community,(and Forums like Runners World) have great stories of DVT comebacks. My doctor said I could run "if" I was careful and I don't know what that actually means, you run or you don't. I can't just call up my doctor, unfortunately, and chat about this so I'm left to read and discuss with others. Some say running again would be the best thing I could do ... read more

Hi all first post so hello. My story is a long haul flight to the USA. Came back,
started to get breathless, tired, pain in my left lower rib. Found out my left lung
was a third full of fluid, I had a PE and that the pain I had in my heart one night
was the damage being done to my right ventricle. Damm. Anyway, on warfarin
only takes a tiny dose 2-3mg inr bang on perfect. But I do get low level
headaches, the injections I had caused bad joint pain. Getting reviewed in a
month and with luck the rat poison will be stopped. Unfortunately, I'm starting to
get left side rib pain again. Don know why. Friends telling me to go to the doc. I'm
a fatalist and think what will be will be but I just wondered if anyone ever got rib
pain before. And hello again. Blood clots , who'd have thought me. Brother gets
them a swell.

Surgery with an existing DVT

My husband has a DVT from his ankle up to the middle of his thigh. He acquired it 7 years ago when he hit his ankle with a piece of drywall (misdiagnosed twice). In a few weeks he will have surgery on his nose and will be off aspirin for 7 days prior to surgery. He wears compression stockings and walks daily. He is afraid of acquiring another blood clot. Does anyone have suggestions of what he can do to prevent another one? Anything he should suggest to his doctor? Has anyone else had surgery after having a DVT for a few years?

Venowave - where to buy

I'm seriously considering buying the Venowave. However, I'm in the Netherlands and there's no place in Europe to buy it. I could buy it through the website of the company that sells it, but the shipping price is high as well as import duty. I have a friend who has a second house in Canada. I wonder if there are (medical) shops in Canada where he could buy it for me. Does anyone know the answer?

Last night I was awoken by very bad pain in the calf( like a cramp I guess) of the leg that has the DVT? Is this common? It took forever to go away and this am it is somewhat sore and noticeable most when I walk.

Is it DVT?

Not sure if over reacting cos it's not like the picture but had to sit in a hard chair
by my son's hospital bed for 16 hours last Thursday. I did get up and walk about
some times but didn't knock or injure my ankle but now very painful, particularly
first thing in the morning after resting it. Hurts more when I pull my foot up.
Slight swelling behind my ankle bone but not red. Pain seems to be getting
worse not better each day and knee aches a little now but this could be because
I'm holding my leg funny now. I have put a lot of weight on rapidly over the last 6
months since my son was diagnosed with cancer and my husband thinks this is
the reason but it's worrying me that it started the morning after our cramped day
in hospital. Any ideas?

Another clot 10 years later

Hello everyone,
I never thought I'd be posting here again with a new blood clot in the opposite leg. Ten years ago I had a massive blood clot in the right leg possibly due to a very long car ride. Ten years later I wake up with horrible pain in my calf. Of course I think it's a pulled muscle and just keep taking ibuprophen which greatly relieved the pain. Last night I noticed that my leg was swollen and starting to turn pink. Uh Oh. Same exact symptoms as ten years ago. I call my doctor who tells me to go to the emergency room. The ultrasound picked up a clot behind my left knee. That's exactly where the other clot was 10 years ago but in the right leg. I was devastated.
Anyway, I told the doctor I would not stay in the hospital and to give me whatever was necessary to take care of myself at home until I could see her on Monday. I will be injecting myself with Lovenox.
Question,
Can I do this standing up? Or, as the instructions say, you must be laying down. Sounds like a silly... read more

Hi all.
I'm 28 and had knee reconstruction 3 weeks ago.
5 days later in a lot of pain I went to the doc and found knee to ankle DVT.
Started clexane 60mg twice daily. They ended up having to up it to 70mg as they
couldnt get those levels as high as they wanted.
A week later ended up in hospital for a week following a PE.
Started warfarin in hospital and still unable to get my INR right. Either too high or
too low.
A few questions.
1. No one asked was I on the pill before or after my surgery and I've later been
told this makes a huge difference to clotting and should of been on blood
thinners post surgery.
2. I was not given compression stockings post surgery and sent home with no
post op care info.
3. I tryed calling my surgern to inform him of the clots and he was not interested
and told me its not his problem and to see my GP.
4. I'm over the daily blood tests checking my INR and am considering switching
back to clexane as treatment. Has anyone done this.

DVT and Birth Control

I posted earlier, but another question.
As a 22-yr-old, female, I'm wondering if there's anyone out there like me, who seem way tooo young for this, and have had your doctors say it was probably birth control? And if so, what types of birth control were you on?
