One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

My left calf (of my previous DVT leg) has been sort of painlessly spasming
intermittently for half the day. Any thoughts?? I'm sorta broke (and finally paying down
my medical bills) and don't want to go to the hospital un-necessarily.

Thoughts?

Blood clot in left calf (DVT)

So I've been hospitalized because I have DVT in my left calf. My doctor says it was
from my birth control. I was on Trinessa and I also was on a 6 hour road trip to SC.
Which I have made several stops along the way.
I was hospitalized this July 11th-July 17th. I started on Lovenox and 2mg of Warfarin.
Then I was out of the hospital (my INR was 2.0) and had to be on the Lovenox for a
week and on 3mg of Warfarin. A week after that it was at 5mg. Then this past Wed., I
had to start taking 7.5mg because I was on Wellbutrian XL (anti-anxiety med) and
that made my INR go to 1.7.
Now just today my doctor called and said I have to be on 8mg. She didn't say what my
INR was. I've stopped taking the Wellbutrain XL because it dropped my INR. It's just
very scary for me now because I don't want to have internal bleeding if I have to keep
taking a higher dose. Xanax doesn't seem to alter the INR. So I'm gonna use that for
my anxiety. I just want to go back to 5mg again soon.... read more

Im now back on Warfarin, after a 5 year break, after my calf pain has been diagnosed as another clot.
Luckily I kept a record of my dosage level, yellow book, and have gone back onto my old dosage and have settled to a INR of 2.4.
Has there been any changes to the treatment since I was last on it?

Sirco juice with Fruitflow

This brand of fruit juice which contains fruitflow - a tomatoe extraction - apparently acts to prevent blood platelet aggregation and therefore has won health endorsements for helping blood circulation and in the prevention of blood clotting . Fruitflow is tasteless and the juice is not tomatoe or tomatoe tasting by the way . Does anyone else have experience drinking it ? It is on sale in the UK - Amazon have it and there is plenty to google online about it .
I can see it may be a preventative for people with no history of clotting but I am hoping it is safe for those like me who have clotting and take warfarin . It does warn on the product to seek medical advise if you take anticoagulants . I have read that it does not change your INR and acts on platelet aggregation not clotting factor which if true is hopefully ok . I'm hoping they are just covering themselves - It does not say don't drink if you take anticoagulants without medical advise or even Seek medical advise - just 'It ... read more

Pregnancy and Clexane

Hi, Had a DVT in 2009, Recently found out that it is still laying dormant in the
same place and didn't completely dissolve. My fiancÚ and I are trying to start a
family and I've got multiple opinions from doctors on pregnancy and the blood
clot. One says I'll have to be on Clexane injections throughout the whole
pregnancy, One says only in the last few trimesters and another is saying one
injection every once a week. Not too sure on what the actual answer is or if the
baby will be effected by the injections or warfarin (if used or needed).
If anybody has any information or previous experience with such topic. I'd love to
hear back.

Newly Diagnosed, Very concerned

Here is my story:

I broke my 5th metatarsal 3 weeks ago. I was put into a walking boot, but told to be nin-weight bearing for 10 days. I followed doctors orders, and on the 10th day, I walked. The day after, I started experiencing very bad pain in my calf, which I attributed to my muscle getting used to moving again.

I went for my 3 week appointment on Monday, and told the doctor about the calf pain, so he sent me to have a doppler. It turns out I have 2 clots. One in my calf, and one in my thigh. They sent me to the ER to be treated immediately.

The ER put me on Lovenox, 190mg and coumidin, 10 mg. I go for my coumidin check up tomorrow.

My questions are:
When does the pain go away?
I am feeling flutters in my legs, is this good or bad?
I have a new, raised vein on my knee, is that my clot traveling?
Is it better to walk or not walk? Should I do any sort of exercises?

How do I know if its gone?

I'm wondering if there's anything that lets you know if a clot has been absorbed? Does a lack of pain mean things are getting better? Lack of swelling? I asked my doctor if lack of pain meant anything and was told flat out "I don't know" I'm frustrated and I'm upset as the full reprecussions are starting to hit me. I feel underinformed, and lost.
I'm an active person and I certainly do not want to gain any weight as I've been trying to lose. I'm also very confused. Exercise helps prevent clots but I'm supposed to minimize walking and no lifting as part of modified duties..Aren't these risk factors for another clot?? I know they don't want the clot to embolize but surely if the pain is lessening it's getting better??
Has anyone ever only had one or is a second clot an inevitability? Looking back I'm sure I've been on the verge a number of times and my body has absorbed it without instance..(frequent calf cramps lasting for at least a week and similar feelings of pinched n... read more

At the end of July 2012 I felt as if I had pulled a hamstring. Over the next 1-2 weeks my whole leg started hurting and swelling. When I noticed a small bruise on my back the size of a pencil erasure, I decided to go to a chiropractor. He did an EMG scan and found a couple of bulging discs. After 1 week of treatment I secure emailed my family physician to see if I needed to come in. In addition to what I just told you all, I also let her know that my leg was so swollen, it was breaking out in little buises but that the pain was gone and I was improving. She said as long as I was improving I didn't need to come in. After 6 weeks of chiropractic treatment, I felt much better but a little concerned that the swelling hadn't gone down. I made an appointment with my physician (a new one since my old one had quit). She immediately felt it was DVT and sent me for lab work and ultrasound. When I expressed surprise at having both bulging discs and DVT, she said that it was possible I had the ... read more

Success at last - 2+ year old Clot

Hello everyone,
I thought I would post this as a new topic because when I was looking for information about re-canalizing chronic clots I found it difficult to locate. There is a lot of information about stenting or using tPA on fresh clots but old clots are not treated as often and finding Interventional Radiologist who have the skills and willingness to help in these situations is not easy. So here is what I have learned from my 2+ years of chronic clot experience:
On July 21, 2010 I woke up with a bluish left leg that was very swollen. I intuitively knew it was a blood clot and it was caused from taking Birth Control pills. I was 42 years old at the time.
I drove to a small local hospital (mistake #1) where I had my D-dimer tested which showed that my blood was definitely clotting. I also had an ultrasound which confirmed the clot. I was immediately placed on a heparin drip and started on Lovenox shots and Coumadin. I saw a total of 4 doctors during my 12 hour stay in ... read more

2 Year DVT follow up post

August 13th 2010 I was diagnosed with DVT in my left leg. The blockage was "severe", and ran from my groin all the way down to behind my left knee.
I am posting this as a 2 year follow up, so others can read this post and know what is possible for their future. I stress the word POSSIBLE, because each & every case often has similar but rarely the exact same symptoms.
I work as a parts department manager at a local Farm Equipment dealership. I also do a great deal of work in both the L&G shop as well as the AG shop. I am up on my feet on concrete for 6 to 8 hours out of each of my normal 10 hour days. I avg. about 56 hrs. per week at work. (YAY salary! --said sarcastically-)
Some things that I have observed over the past 2 years:
1) I have, for the most part, gotten over my fear that EVERY leg pain MUST be another DVT! After 6 "false calls" to the doctors office where I just KNEW I had another DVT, and thankfully did NOT, I have "Learned" what KIND of pain to expect.
2) ... read more
