One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I have read that aspirin doesn't help to stop blood clots in the veins only in the arteries.
Does anybody know if this is true? Also does fish oil help to prevent blood clots in the veins?

Hello,

I came off Warfarin approx three weeks ago and while I was on it I had blood taken for clotting factors.

My doctor has rung me today with the results and told me I am positive for Factor V Leiden.

Should the bloods for the test have been taken a month or so after I came off the Warfarin as the warfarin can alter results? This is what I have read and/or heard but I just want to verify it

Thanks

dvt in left calf diagnosed in June 2012. Thankfully, Doc says small one. Warfarin therapy and compression stocking since. Can a side effect of warfarin be twitching and aching in the legs? Even the leg unaffected by the dvt?

I suffered a DVT around my 19th birthday, i am now nearly 21 and have
had many problems ever since including ulcerations of my legs. I
recently went for a MR Venogram and received a letter trough the post
this morning, however there are some things that have been said that i
am not too sure what they mean and was hoping someone could help me
out on here.

The letter says that the "MR Venogram shows occlusion of both common
iliac veins and of the distal IVC in the abdomen"

If anyone could help and explain this i would be very grateful.

Thanks

Aaron

New Meds instead of Warfarin

Hi what a fab site this is. Great to know we are not alone and that helps dosn't it. My hubby had dvt and pe 2 years ago and is a warfarin lifer. All in all the side effects have mellowed out or indeed we have just got used to them. We are both retired.
We moved from UK to Spain and I have to say the medical here is superb . The attention he gets here is much superior to UK.

Our problem, and yes I know you all will agree, it is our problem not just my hubby, is that the docs here are wanting to take him off of warfarin and put him on some new medication at just one tablet a day.

I did some research and the only meds I could find that would substitute for warfarin had been banned in a couple of countries. Has anyone got any advice, it would be really helpful as our appointment is coming round and we need to make a decision whether to stay on the warfarin or change.

God bless you all, hang on in there. We play the cards we are given never ever give up hope.x

Hello. Im 30 and I have had couple of DVTs, 1st when I was 17, then
around 22, then 30 - I had twice, and they decided to put me on
Warfarin for a lifetime. Ocasionally I had more or less pain in my
left calf, but now it is too painful! After work I cannot do anything
else rather than just resting. It's been 10 months since my last DVT.
I go to gym, I was quite fit and could do fairly lot excercises. It
always was improving my blood circulation. But now nothing helps. Legs
is swollen even more and hurts. I wear obviously compression stocking
and take warfarin regularly, and nothing helps. Pain pain pain. What
to do? And do you think I will be able to work by 65? I don't ! Please
help. Shall I go to doctors? They will say that it is normal when you
have PTS and that's it!

Sorry for my English, Im not native British.

My mumis flying from UK to USA but has to have blood thining injection approx 1-2 hours before flight. As she has to be at the airport 3 hours before and it takes a couple of hours to get there the injection will have to be done at the airport.
Has anyone any experience of this, any help she can get with it, I have contacted Heathrow but found no help so far. It looks like she will be ok on the return journey as the medical centre at the USA airport will do it for her.

Hi i am 35 years old . Since Monday i have had a burning sensation in my lower right
leg. On Wednesday evening when i went to bed i experienced excrutiating pain in my
right knee. This then moved back down to my calf. I didn't really sleep because I was
in so much pain and I went to A & E in the early morning. blood pressure etc was fine
,doc said it didnt sound like anything serious and sent me home telling me to take 2
paracetamol every 4 hours. These worked in taking the pain away ,but I still felt an
extreme burn inside my leg. It hasn't at any time made my leg hot to touch!!!!.I carried
on as much as it would allow me too .I walked again a on Friday and I noticed the
pain was totally gone!!! Friday night I started experiencing pain and burn again
around 8pm so I went to out of hours gp. They said all observations were fine and
didn't think it was anything serious so I went home . later that night I went to bed
and the whole thing got worse going from seve... read more

Great forum. I am a fit 50 yr old MD with leg dvt after a long haul flight. Had pneumonia prior to flight which I later found out contributed to my dvt. In medical school we were never taught about alot of these risks and I was surprised how many fit people get a dvt. Initial symptoms leg swelling and pain. Removal of clot in my case discouraged for it went only half way up my thigh. Also removal of clot not available in my city so I had to call interventional physicians in the states who also confirmed no need to remove the clot. Still not convinced this was a wise choice. On coumadin and as many others inr varies. Shots inohep caused bruising at injection site. Different opinions from specialists as to whether shots or pills are better. I decided to stay with the coumadin. Bad headaches daily and 2 months out still tired end of day and calf still swollen. I am up to 4 km walk per day but painful near the end of the walk. Running at this point no way. Blood tests revealed APS and... read more

DVT And Worry..

Hi, I was diagnosed with a DVT at the age of sixteen and the doctors think it was
due to contraception, The clot went from my upper thigh right down to the bottom
of my knee. A year on Warfarin and a few months on Clexane injections and the
doctors said it was okay to come off the medication and start living normally
again. Three years later at the age of eighteen and I've just been told that part of
the clot is still laying in my upper thigh. Has this happened to anybody else?
Worrying myself sick.

Blood-Thinners Feeling COLD

Hi all,

DVTx2 & PEx2 reason not fully known but the suspicion is that it maybe a result of a stomach issue like mild Irritable Bowl Disease (IBD). This nightmare for me began early 2011. I have been on Warfrin and recently Xarelto for treatment. I was absolutely freezing cold all time on Warfrin and although not as bad am still feeling cold on Xarelto. I have heard that many others also complain of being cold on blood-thinners. Do any of you suffer from this side-effect?

I am on warfarin for a blood clot in my left leg which I believe I got when I had pneumonia.I have a clot in deep vein and my superficial vein. The clot in the deep vein goes from my middle thigh to my middle calve.

My doctor said she wants me to come of warfarin after 3 months.

Is this a normal time?
I would like to stay with warfarin longer but am afraid of the side effects. I know some people take warfarin for live so I was wondering what effects I could receive if I stay on longer?

Folks Xarelto is so much better than Warfrin! Less side effects no INR checks ever! It has been shown to be more effective at preventing specifically DVT's than Warfrin or Lovenox. It is approved in Canada all of Europe and most of Asia for DVT prevention. I hated Warfrin so bad I convinced my doctor to put me on Xarelto. Best decision ever. Ask/beg your doctor for Xarelto you will be happy you did!
