One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi , new to forum and dvts !
I am 39, 11 weeks postnatal and usually fit and healthy .
Last week I caught my heel in a grid and really jolted my leg trying to free my foot
from the grid . Over the next couple of days my left leg was tingly , then became
painful . I wasn't alarmed until my whole left leg went blue and cold ! I
immediately went to the hospital and it took a few hours to get any sort of
diagnosis . I had the d-dimer blood test that confirmed the clot , the doctors said
that dvts are usually in the calf , which produces a red and hot area around the
clot . My symptoms didn't fit into this description and my pain was more in the
thigh and groin area. The nurses said that once I started on the fragmin
injections I should notice and improvement within a couple of days . Other than a
slight colour improvement , my leg remains extremely painful and swollen . Have
a venogram in 3 days so hoping that will reveal more . Didn't really get much

new DVT, swollen foot ok?

I was diagnosed with DVT 7 days ago, although I think I have had it much longer. My leg was huge, but now it's gone down after 7 days of the shots in my stomach and wharfarin. But as of yesterday my foot is gigantic and a lot bigger than it was. It's swollen with tons of red splotchy spots and a couple bigger blood spots right under the skin. Is that ok or should I go to the doctor now? I have a check up in a week, but this huge foot doesn't seem normal. It's so swollen it's like playdough. But strangely it feels better and I am walking a lot better than I was a few days ok. Thoughts? thanks.

DVT and Venowave

I was diagnosed with DVT in my right leg last January and have been under warfarin since. I have constant pain in my leg and was told last week that it could be post thrombotic symptom. Being in so much pain, I looked on line what treatments existed for PTS and the most successful one I found is the venowave. I received the device last Friday and it has been a miracle. I do not feel any pain when it is on. However I went to see my doctor today and he told me that I should not use it as I am still under treatment for DVT and that some residues of the clot could go up into my lungs. I would like to know if anyone has been advise not to use venowave under DVT.

Has anyone been told these are the result of a RVOTO (right ventricular outflow
tract obstruction) or Pulmonary stenosis? I am wondering if anyone else has had
this or if it is a result of the open heart surgery (tetralogy of phallot) I had as a
baby? If so, what course of action did your doctors take to repair this?

Thanks so much for your time.

Hey everyone, came off warfarin 1st week of July 2012 - treated for 8
months total, dvt in left leg thigh to pelvis.

I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me some of the post issues
they've had or are having - can't really seem to see much online.
I get tinges of pain in my leg still, prinkly sensations, and
sometimes it still swells and i get pain around the back of my knee.
Scary because i think it might be another clot....

can anyone shed any light on this? i know i suffer from PTS as the
surgeon seen it just from the discoloration in my leg (pinkish tint)
but would that explain the prinkly sensations, the pains?

How high has your INR gone?

Hello, I recently had to stop taking warfarin so that I could have surgery. After 10 days of clexane, they started me back on warfarin and my INR is currently 6.4, having been 6.0, then 4.8. I've never had anything so high - I know that if it gets really high they can do something medically to bring it down - but how high would it have to get before they do that?

I've been told to take no warfarin for three days, then start again and test on Tuesday. I'm trying to keep everything consistent, amount of other drugs I'm taking, diet, exercise till Tuesday in the hope that it comes down.

How high have you gone?

I was experiencing pain in my right calf and went to the ER on August 29th where
they did an ultrasound and sent me home after telling me it was just superficial
fibrosis. Three days later, my foot began to swell so I returned to the ER. They
did a CT scan of my lungs and an ultrasound on my leg and found two DVT's in
my leg and PE's in both lungs. I was admitted to the hospital for 6 days and was
on lovanox and Coumadin therapy.
I am 39 years old. After several blood tests, the results showed that I have factor
five liver deficiency, and will have to be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. I
have expierencied headaches with the warafin, but the alternative isn't good
either. The worst part for me has been the anxiety that I have felt after coming
home. Every pain scares me and the knowledge that one of the clots in my leg
could break loose or the warafin could cause internal bleeding has been a very
humbling expierence. At this point, I just hope ... read more

Any cabin crew with DVT/PEs

Hi everyone I am a longhaul cabin crew member and have been for 10+ years up until a few months ago I was a healthy man, then I suffered a PE which nearly killed me. My doctors attributed the PE to DVT caused by longhaul flying and my job as all other test and reasons were negative and eliminated. I applied for workers compensation to help with my medical cost relating to the PE the company doctor assessed me and stated that there was no way my work contributed to my PE as DVT is caused by immobility on longhaul flights and flight attendants in their job capacity are not immobile and he had heard of no cabin crew or pilots suffering DVT/PE. Are then any cabin crew out there that have suffered DVT/PE due to our work. Am I the only one? I cant believe that, I want to fight for my right to help

Does the brand for compression socks matter?

Does the brand for compression socks matter? What brand do you use and have you tried other brands?

I was given Mediven while I was in the hospital and they seem to be one of the more expensive brands. I have to wear the thigh high socks and the Mediven do stay up for me where I have read that others have problems with the thigh highs not staying up (I don't know if that's a brand issue, though). Do you prefer one brand over another and why?

Thanks!!

In March 2012, I had bilateral DVT (blood clots) in my legs and a PE (pulmonary embolism) in my lungs. I was put on heparin in hospital and discharged with lovenox and warfarin. It took me 5 weeks to have my INR at level with warfarin to stop the lovenox (bridge therapy until INR level reached).

During some of the tests, my thyroid showed a problem. Ultrasound and FNA done. Took another 5+ weeks to get my INR at level after FNA (had to stop and cover with lovenox due to bleeding risks). Long story short, I had a TT on August 8, 2012. Again, using lovenox to bridge and taken off warfarin due to bleeding risks. I was discharged from hospital and had to return within 24 hours due to hematoma in my incision. Removed from ALL blood thinners and had IVC filter put in to help avoid PE's. Returned to warfarin, etc. after 10 days and I reached INR level in one week.

Since this time, I have had issues with INR being too high and have been reducing the warfarin dosage. I am curious to ... read more

DVT Side Effect

I've read many here; however this one seems to be 'new'. DVT from behind to foot first week of Dec. 2009. In hospital 3 days and then sent home to lie on couch with leg elevated for over two months with a very ill fitting sock. Swelling is much better but still in calf, ankle/foot areas. Problem: top of foot from about middle of foot to end of toes is totally NUMB. Also other leg is swelling up and asked Doc about it. He touched my ankle and shrugged his shoulders and said "Dunno". I sorta think this may be a DVT in the other leg too - as to numbness not a clue. My INR is stable at 2.1

I was diagnosed with dvt for a second time in 3 months. I had my first
dvt in end of May, was on warfarin for 3 months. I stopped taking
warfarin for 2 weeks and got another dvt. This second one is so painful
and my leg is continuing to swell after being on treatment for 1 week.
Has anyone had the same problem as mine? Peace

Venous insufficiency

I got an answer to why certain things are still uncomfortable for me more than a
year out, and why I still have some edema in my ankle/foot after more than a year.
Two spots of venous insufficiency where the valves aren't closing properly, one just
above and one just below my knee, the one below my knee is the one causing pain
at times. He also doppler'd my feet, and discovered the vein on the top of my foot
is kinda weak, which I suspected... it is bothered by the pressure of compression
stockings late in the day, as well as shoes on too tight that press there.

I really liked the Physician Assistant who spent more than an hour with me today.
Some recommendations are obvious, such as get exercise, lose weight, wear my
compression stockings, don't stand all day, etc. It was not so much heard it all
before as let's make sure all of his patients know what and how each help.

One was interesting... he recommended exercise that used my calf muscles more

Wounds on DVT leg...

It's been almost 2 1/2 years after first being diagnosed with a DVT in
my right leg. I am still experiencing occasional leg pain.
I notice it mostly when I drive, stand in one position for long, walk
up hill, walk up stairs, or walk more than a few miles. I have
basically just learned to live with it, it is not terrible. My leg
still swells occasionally, and it looks like my lower leg was in a
boxing match.

I have noticed ever since the DVT, my leg is bruised, and when I cut
myself or get a sore on that leg, it takes months to heal. I am
thinking maybe there is some sort of circulatory issue. I got a few
mosquito bites 45 days ago, they have all healed, just fine, except
for the one on my lower right leg. It is still a huge scab. Is this
something I should be concerned with?

Any advice would be great.

PS... I am on warfarin for life due to Lupus Anticoagulant.

Hello, I am a newly diagnosed 37yr old with no history of DVT, just
minor leg edema, some varicosities and spider veins. They came across
this by accident. I had the angiogram yesterday and they told us I
need a stent because I have high level of compression. I would like
to get a second opinion in Boston. Anybody know of a good vascular
surgeon in Boston who deals with this condition? We were thinking of
a second pregnancy so we need to figure out if the risk would be too
high too. They have me on blood thinners until I get the stent.
Thank you!

hi, i am 22 years of age and 6 months ago i was diagnosed with an extensive dvt from
my ankle to my hip. I was hospitalised for 2 weeks with tummy injections and warfarin. I
was wondering as to how long until my swelling is gone and clothes start to fit me. I
recently had an ultra sound and found out from my ankle to knee pretty much has no
clots to show its just my knee to hip now. I still experience a lot of pain and swelling is
still very obvious. Its very depressing being a young girl and trying to hide this
especially in the summer time. Im always feeling very tired and sore. Please tell me your
thoughts on this?

Hi, I'm new to all of this so I'm sorry if I'm long winded. I was at work last week telling my co-workers that I had experienced right calf pain early in the week that wasn't severe and subsided after 2-3 days, but now my ankle was swelling. The swelling would come and go. I've known a little about DVTs and it even crossed my mind initially but when the calf pain went away I forgot about it. To make this complicated, I hurt my right knee several months ago playing soccer. Soon after, I hurt the left knee working in the yard. After tolerating the pain in both knees for long enough I went to the ortho doc. He ordered an MRI on the left knee because the symptoms I described sounded like a torn Meniscus. It was. Surgery for that was 2 months ago or so. Recovery was a breeze, no more pain and I've been back to work without any problems. My right knee still bothered me. About 3 weeks ago, at my 2nd post op appointment I told my doc that the right was still hurting so he drained the knee, ... read more
