One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

My story... questions about DVT and PE

Hello - I'm happy to say I found this thread through my non-stop searching on the web! I posted this already by accident on someone elses thread but I'm posting again so others will see it too!

I have DVT (blood clot from my knee to my groin) that went undiagnosed and I went to the hospital on July 25th and was there for 8 days due to a "pulmonary embolism" - it was so scary.

I am 25, female, super healthy (otherwise), on birth control pill... I had been on Marvelon for 6 years and then switched twice in 2006 so far due to side effects (1st switch was Ortho-Tricyclen and 2nd switch was Yasmin).

I injured my knee on June 23 and was wearing a leg brace - basically they said that the clotting was due to the injury or the brace and was "increased" by the fact I was on the pill. I have no family history, don't smoke etc.

Anyway, I have not had any blood tests done, other than an INR. My family doc is SURE that my problem was caused by the knee injury however I am worried abo... read more

I'm wondering if blood clots form in the shin area or like
front side of calf. I have what looks like a bruise, and its
like a swollen lump on the shin area. I heard a common
place was calf but I didn't read much about the shin
area.

hi, im new to the forum.. im 18 and have been treated for dvt for 6 months now.. i have a clot from above my groin to my calf.. the clot started from flying from new york to heathrow.. and wasnt found for 8 months after the flight.. due to the NHS and my GP dismissing my swollen and extremly painful leg as a cramp or a pulled muscle. until they finally scaned it.

i had another scan last week and clot hasnt decreased in size and is still very large..

as you will all be too im sure, you will know im feeling quite fed up not being able to exercise or much else. my question is.. it might sound abit silly.. but does anyone know if there is added risk in flying? as i need to get out to new york again

would very much appricate some help, i hope everyone gets better soon..

thanks, matt

Warfarin dosage

Hi all . Ok I developed a dvt when I broke my ankle nearly 4 weeks ago
was put on warfarin and innohep injections 3 weeks ago. Because my inr wasn't
reaching the required level I had to have 17 days of injecting innohep as well as
the warfarin tablets before my inr got over 2. Now here's the thing that is
concerning me ! My warfarin started on 10 mg for the first 3 days then went
down to 5 mg for 2 days , this had little to no effect on my inr results. My
warfarin dosage has slowly been increasing up to 13 mg (which been on for 6
days now) which did bring my inr up to 2.8 which was taken on the 6/6/12. But
went to doctors for another inr on 8/6/12 and was told it had gone down to 2.4 .
The nurse told my she had never known anyone to be taking over 10 mg of
warfarin. The doctor also seemed alarmed with the dosage, I'm 34 years old
weigh 60 kg approx did drink a lot of beer befor the dvt but haven't since , I
smoke which I know I shouldn't, and have avoided al... read more

Coming off warfarin tomorrow

Hi guys - great to finally find a forum where I can
relate to others. am 36 - diagnosed with DVT in
calf 3 months ago and due to come off the
Warfarin tomorrow Just read warfarin side
effects being lack of energy, lethargy hair loss,
increased appetite, always feeling cold and
intense mood swings. Very interesting since I
experience all of these but think I may have done
pre warfarin... Lol. On diagnosis of my DVT blood
tests revealed I was chronically low in ferratin
and iron both of which are now resolved with
ferrous sulphate intake. seriously though -
despite feeling slightly apprehensive about
coming off the warfarin I will be interested to see
if my energy levels rise. I have requested a scan
( which I was surprised to learn is not standard
procedure b4 coming off warfarin ) which my
haematologist has agreed to. I would be grateful
for any words of encouragement or advice
regarding coming off warfarin.

Many thanks Louise

Clot in my lung (PE)

On September 10th, I was sitting at my desk, took a deep breath and ouch..a
shooting pain up the right side of my back. At first I didn't think much of it but
that evening and days after, I couldn't lay on my back, on my right side without
intense pain. After 4 days of what I thought was spasming, shortness of breath
and a hard time breathing deeply, I made a doctors appt. She gave me muscle
relaxers.

A week later, I returned to the doctor because the relaxers weren't working and I
knew something was wrong...she sent me for blood work and then a chest xray.
The chest xray showed a small blur at the bottom of my right lung...she said fluid
in my lungs. Next she sent me for a CT scan...from there, they immediately
admitted me to emergency.

I am now on Lovenox injections twice a day and warfarin. There is no reason for
my clot, no surgeries, no trips, no family history...just bad luck (as the doctor put
it). I am B12 deficient and sometimes see a li... read more

Hi, I'm sitting at my computer quite alot throughout the day. I move around & getup to use the phone/bathroom/eat etc. I'm also laying down & other various I'd assume normal teenage acts of laziness. I started reading about DVTS and pulmonary embolisms online & got a bit startled, sometimes I'll get a bit of dull pain in my leg in the calf area, but none so much where I cant walk, dance, run, or exercise. I havent got any symptoms. I've read forums about DVTS & pulmonary embolisms & many of them are vague about symptoms being present. Should I be worried? Thank You

SCARED! Putting a filter in? Any veterans?

How exactly is the filter put in and where and where does it sit and how long are
you out of commission? My husband went today and was diagnosed with his
second DVT of the opposite leg that he got WHILE on Coumadin. They are now
saying that he needs to go see a specialist and talk to them about getting a filter
put in next week. He is a veteran, 39, and what we thought was great health. I am
scared. Please any info is great.

Also, are there any veterans out there? Were any of you diagnosed with
symptoms relating to any tours and if so where and what? The drs don't know the
cause of his DVT so we are looking at everything.

Yasmin and DVT's

Hi all, as im sure most of you are aware, DVT's are sometinmes caused by the use of
the combined contraceptive Pill. But having read over many of the posts, it is very
worrying to see that most of the posts i have read concerning women and DVT, they
all seem to have been taking Yasmin.

Im wondering is there something different about this Pill compared to the others that
are on the market.

How many of you ladies out there have experienced DVT following the use of Yasmin??

PE & DVT

When I was 21 I had PE in both lungs, half of my left lung was cut off from
circulation an air completely. I did not know I had them until one morning I
woke up in severe pain, I could breathe properly and I couldn't stand up straight.
the Dr said if I hadn't of had the pain that bad I would of been dead in a few
weeks. I was put on a hepren drip for a week and then released once I agreed to
have claxane injections twice a day and take wafarin.
With the injections I got a hard lump under my skin which is a heamatoma, it
was a hard lump with dark purple bruise around it, it got infected and spread
right across my stomach and I couldn't walk without being in extreme pain. My
indicators that I had PE were a pain in my shoulder that felt like a constant
pinched nerve, sharp stabbing pains in my ribs that would come and go,
shortness of breath and the feeling of a chest infection. My PE went away after
almost a year on warfarin.
I have protein c deficiency an... read more

Hi All:

We have heard enough about Warfarin. Has anyone tried
using other dietery alternatives that can behave as
anti-coagulants? In most cases after a 6-12 months of Warfarin
usage, can there be supplements? I hear of asprin (OK- non prescription drug), garlic, flax seed oil...Would appreciate
your tested alternatives. Native wisdom has lot to offer.

Could This Be DVT?

I took a 3 hour car trip (PA to DC) on Monday, and another 3 hour trip back to PA today. After getting out of the car, my left calf started hurting, and the pain doesn't seem to be easing up. It seems to travel to my thigh and ankle.

The best way I could describe the pain would be soreness, not excruciating, but difficult to walk on.

Does this sound like it could be DVT from the car rides?

Hi I'm 23 years old. I had a blood clot just under a year ago when I had my
daugter. It was the most hardest time I've been trought. I had a c section with my
first child. And everythink was fine. When I had my second child I decided to
have a natural birth. I mean everythink did go smoothly and I was out the next
day. I was at home for 3 weeks when I noticed I started getting some pain in my
left leg. So at first I did ignore it until it got do bad I couldn't actually walk. My
boyfriend took me to hospital. And all they said was that it was a sprain. So I
went back home again. The next mornning it was so bad I got rushed to
hospital. They done ultra sounds and blood tests and then gave me the news
that I had an extensive DVT all up my left leg. I was in hospital for 3 weeks
having injections. When I did come out of hospital I had to rely on my mum and
my boyfriend to do most things for me for about a month as I couldn't get up
and move the pain was still so ... read more

Could this be DVT?

Hello all, I have a couple of questions about DVT, any answers would help.

About a month ago after dancing & walking quite a bit with shoes too tight for my feet, I noticed my big toes had blood under them, this prompted me to search some info online, which in turn sparked a bit of paranoia about DVT'S & such.

Sometimes in the back of my left leg on the calf, I have very slight/dull shooting sensations, not really any pain, but slightly noticeable, when either getting up from sitting or sometimes walking.

Recently I had a bit of tenderness in my upper front left thigh area also. I'm currently in the process of applying for medical insurance so I can't visit a doctor within the next couple of weeks. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac also.

I'm able to walk quite a bit, no pain, no swelling & no redness but I've read that alot of symptoms of DVT arent noticeable.

Anyway, should any of this be cause for concern? Thanks

cellulitis

i had a lump under my skin on my underwear line. there was no visible head as if it was a pimple or in grown hair....i tried to pop it. it made it red. the next couple of days it got red but didnt hurt. I took hot epsom salt baths then it oozed clear and white liquid came out. i went to the doc they said it was an infected ingrown hair. they gave me cephalexin 500mg 2xs a day for 7 days. the paper work i received said i had cellulitis and now my leg seems to look better the swelling is down. but now either out of paranoia & anxiety i have achy muscles in the leg. i am terrified! i am feeling slight ache all the way to my foot now, but i could just be over reacting i dont know what to do...just continue with the meds and hope i get better? :(
