One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hillwalking/Hiking and DVTs

Does anyone know if hiking can bring on a dvt. I had a dvt in my thigh 15 months ago. Before that i did alot of hillwalking/ hiking. My doctor assured me that hillwalking wouldnt bring on another clot and should actually be good for my leg. however i have tried doing a few hillwalks since. each time the walk itself is fine but about three days later I have pain and discomfort in my leg and feel nauseous, this can then last for a few weeks. Im starting to wonder if the hillwalking did in fact cause the dvt and if i should avoid it in future.

I gave birth last Monday then this Monday i woke up in the night with cramp in my
right leg. next morning it felt like id pulled a muscle quite badly and had a line of
swelling halfway down my leg at the side going across about 3 inches. by Tuesday i
had swelling and pain all down the back of my calf so i googled it and dvt kept
coming up. Then yesterday the swelling was still there but it was nowhere near
as painful. today its barely swollen but when i woke up the swollen bits were red
but that's gone now. the pains only really there now if i press on it. that's what's
confusing me, from what I've read it gets worse not better and the pain is really
bad and stops people walking.
My midwife is coming round this afternoon so I'll be asking her but just wondered
if anyone's had anything like this and what happened.

I switched to plant based 4 weeks ago and check my level yesterday..it was 5.84...I had to get a vitamin k shot. Odd, that I increased my vegetables tremendously and my inr went up?

Any thoughts?

I'm on warfarin for blood clots after a broken foot. Anyway I've been getting
these tingling heat sensations all through my body off and on like a xmas
tree. Has anyone experienced the same thing and how to cope with it or rid
of it? Also I can't seem to get any sleep. Any advice would be great thank you.

Supplements while on coumadin?

So I am back... I was reading this site some years ago when my husband had his first PE. He went off the Coumadin / Rat Poison with Dr. support because: young age (he was 38), athletic lifestyle (skiing/soccer), no genetic markers were found or any other contributing factor. The Dr and both of us were in agreement that life long coumadin might pose a higher ris to him long term.

Well we are back.. He had his second PE 5 days ago. FIRST we are super blessed that he is recovering at home! We are looking at coagulation for life with this being his second PE. Can anyone share some information into the Vitamin K issue with Coumadin? I have provided a link that positions coumadin as a vitamin K killer? I did NOT undertand this last time and we did monitor his intake of greens. From this article it seems pointless b/c the Coumadin knocks out the vitamin K absorption? Exactly what is needed for good health?

I got a dvt in Feb last year and ever since then my periods have been so heavy the first 4-5 days it has scared me. My concern now is just yesterday I had the biggest clot (in my experience) I have ever seen come from my period. My doctors have said its ok but now I am worried. I am on 10mg of warafrin a day.
How big a clot is too much? When do I really need to worry?

I got a dvt ankle-groin a year ago,
Warfarin usage is over since 3 months.

I ordered some 30-40mmHg compression stockings since
my 20-30 did not reduce the swelling good enough.
I also read that 30-40 is usually the best ones.

After using the 30-40 stockings for about 3 hours i felt
some pain in my heel and some redspots on my skin for the first time.

I assume that is a sign of the stockings being to tight?

Five years ago after the birth of my third child i developed a clot in my right leg behind my knee. It went all the way up and into my vena cava vein. I also had multiple PE's and was in the hospital for a long time. Since than I have tried everything. Massage, Accupunture, bodytalk, you name it I have tried it. (Except surgery w/ stents) I am currently back on coumadin and my leg hurts all the time from the moment I wake up until I fall asleep it hurt. I wear a compression sock almost all the time. I find i need moments to feel free to feel the air on my leg. I have been reading allot of what you all have to say and I was wondering if there are other people out there that have been suffering as long as I have. 5 years is a long time and I just want to be able to fix it. My kids are still young and i have such a hard time keeping up with them and suffer so much at the end of the day. I am just looking for any advise anyone can give me??? Will this ever go away or is this really my l... read more

Been here for a long time - post DVT in November 2011 - have been
looking into getting my tubes tied, and been sent to hematologist this
week. AFter seeing him, we did some routine blood tests for disorders,
but came back negative, then they learned of my mother who had cancer
2 years ago, and clotted after the surgery to remove it - this has now
sent them to test me for factor 5 - I'm scared and nervous - I only
found out today that my great grandfather had a blood disorder of some
type, and I'm trying to find out if anyone else has, although the
answer seems to be no, besides my mom who clotted after surgery.
So I have to wait 5 weeks to get the answer, my life seems to be
hanging in the balance, and I'm so stressed out. I can come off my
warfarin anyday now and go back to a normal life, (i have post
thrombotic syndrome but can live with it).....anyone out there to help
shed some light on this disorder...is there really a chance that my
great grandfather... read more

Hi, I was diagnosed with DVT today with a small clot behind my knee and in my
lower thigh. As you can imagine it came as quite a shock, apart from the info I
received at the hospital I'm not quite sure how serious it is. How concerned
should I be? Should I be driving to work which takes an hour. Any guidance
would be appreciated. Thanks. Craig

Side effects after stoppin Warfarin

I have been off Warfarin for 2 weeks after taking it for 6 months post large DVT in
thigh last October. I have had more aches in both legs than I ever had before. Not
sure if it is due to my blood thickening up again, the original clot, compression
stockings or something worse. I admit to experiencing the post-Warfarin paranoia
that I have read about on this forum but has anyone else had similar aches and
pains after stopping Warfarin? Would welcome some suggestions. Thanks.

When to See Doc With Injury
Posted by Bobbie
Last Reply May 13, 2012 at 12:46

When do you know if an injury should be checked by a physcian? Large can of chicken broth fell out of the grocery bag I was carrying into the house and hit the ankle bone on leg where I had blood clot that moved to my lung three months ago. I've been on Coumadin since leaving the hospital and have been extra careful not to injure or cut myself, but now this freak accident happens on a Saturday when I can't reach my doctor. I immediately applied pressure to the spot and am icing 15 minutes each hour. It did not break the skin but there is a small bruise beneath the skin and some swelling in the area. All I can find on the net is that I should contact my doctor for any injusry or cut, but is it necessary for even a minor injury such as this? I don't want to be a big baby but I don't want another clot for sure! Does anyone have any advice...thanks.
